Conscious Breathing
What is Conscious Breathing?
Conscious Breathing is a personal growth process, which uses a breathing technique to expand awareness and clear out physical, emotional and mental blocks or stresses, especially those arising from birth and early childhood. A gentler approach than traditional Rebirthing, this system aims at freeing individuals from their learnt patterns and suppressions, enabling them to empower themselves, integrate their fragmented self and experience self-mastery, joy and self-love.
Conscious breathing is about connecting with the true part of ourselves by making attachments to illusions (fears, limiting beliefs & childhood conditioning) fully conscious. Through a process of deep, conscious, connected breathing people are able to clear energetic blocks within their body, integrating repressed emotions, traumas and old patterns.
Conscious breathing sessions can be a profound experience in healing the Body, Mind and Spirit and connecting more deeply to the truth and beauty within. When, through the practice of conscious breathing we are able to integrate the processes of thinking, feeling and sensing, we find ourselves capable of intuitive understanding of a reality which extends far beyond intellectual, emotional or physical perceptions.
Conscious Breathing originally evolved from a collection of techniques and processes, such as Rebirthing, Taoism, the work of Gurdjieff, a variety of modern psychological theories and many ancient mystical principles. The focus is on gentle resolution rather than dramatic expression and re-experience of past traumas. It is based on the philosophy that our thoughts are creative, that we create our lives according to what we consciously and subconsciously believe in.
Some of the unconscious limiting belief systems people may have acquired throughout their lives, and especially following their birth and early childhood experiences could be:
I am powerless
I'm not good enough
I must struggle to survive
Nobody understands me
The world is dangerous
I don’t deserve to be loved
And many others
If such thoughts are residing in our subconscious mind, they can lead us on a path of victimhood, stress and addictive behaviours. These unconscious beliefs are not necessarily accessible intellectually, but are stored in our physical body. By using the breath, we can access these stored emotions and beliefs, get to the core of them, and let them go.
However, conscious breathing work is not going back to the past, but rather, working with whatever is happening at the here and now. Conscious Breathing is also not about changing, fixing or improving people. The human psyche is a self-regulating system that always aspires for balance. Whenever a fearful or traumatic experience is made fully conscious in the present, it naturally transforms itself gently and effortlessly.
Conscious breathing is effortless, completely safe and easy to learn. And finally, it not only clears out our emotional gunk, but increasing the oxygen flowing through our bodies helps to release toxins that are stored in our cells, thus enhancing our physical health and strengthening our immune system as well.
